The cone/stream pattern is effective in affecting respiration quickly due to its ability to disperse a wider area of the active ingredient in the OC (oleoresin capsicum) spray. This pattern creates a more extensive mist, allowing the agent to reach the respiratory system efficiently. When deployed, the cone/stream pattern can envelop an individual, facilitating quicker inhalation of the spray compared to other patterns that might be more concentrated in a smaller area.

The design of the cone allows it to settle around the target, resulting in more significant exposure and potentially leading to heightened respiratory distress and discomfort. This is particularly important in situations where rapid incapacitation is desired, as it maximizes the chances of the person inhaling the spray.

In contrast, other patterns like the direct stream focus on accuracy at a distance, the foam pattern tends to stick to surfaces rather than disperse widely, and the fog pattern, while also dispersive, may not achieve the same immediate respiratory impact as the cone/stream due to its lighter nature and less targeted delivery. Thus, the cone/stream pattern is recognized for its effectiveness in quickly affecting an individual’s respiration due to its broad coverage and quick dispersal capabilities.
